Between Two Identical Memories is a short animation of ''2.40, created as a standalone film and as part of the larger project University of the Future Dreams.
The story takes the viewer into the space of memory. Agiya Aniyarku walks through a memory-city, where houses become cells of the past and human silhouettes echo the home she had to leave behind. Among these images emerges the figure of a man, almost forgotten, repressed as a traumatic experience, yet still charged with energy. To free herself and reclaim this strength, Agiya must return and confront the situation, uncovering what her own trauma conceals.
Drawn by the illusion of the past and the longing to return to the warmth of home, she reunites with the man’s image. Yet this closeness turns into a trap: the illusion could engulf her and keep her locked in a circle of trauma. In the decisive moment, Agiya realises that the past does not give back energy but only holds it captive. With an act of will, she shatters the enclosing hourglass and breaks free of the illusion.
The final scene returns her to an ordinary café. Here she is transformed, calm, grounded, and healed.
Between Two Identical Memories explores the themes of memory and liberation, opening one of the episodes in the larger story of University of the Future Dreams, where Agiya will reappear in different ages and contexts. The work has been included in the international AI art exhibition Artelligent 2025 in Salvador and will be shown at other festivals in 2025–2026.
